The Miriam Switching Post accepts donations of gently used furniture and household items for re-sale (we are not a consignment shop). Proceeds from sales support the programs of the Miriam Foundation: The Miriam School and the Miriam Learning Center (both located in Webster Groves).Your donations are greatly appreciated - and tax deductible.

Because all items in the store are donated, we never know what we'll have in stock from one day to the next. Most items sell quickly, so any photos on this site are just to show examples of the types of items we accept and thus are not guaranteed to be available in the store.

Shop often to find the best deals!
With over 30 years of experience in the estate sale and home contents resale markets, our knowledgeable volunteers and staff can help to ease the transition.

We are happy to give free advice and help you put together a plan to accomplish your goals quickly and efficiently.

Call 314-646-7737 to find out how we can best fulfill your needs.
Don’t know where to start?
Here is a checklist of STEPS TO TAKE:

DECIDE what you want to take with you when you move, or what items the family wants to keep. Give relatives a deadline for picking up their choices.

GO THROUGH personal papers you no longer need and shred anything with Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, etc.

GO THROUGH purses, pockets of clothing, look under the mattress, etc. We have often found diamond rings in robe pockets and dollar bills tucked into books.

If you are planning to have an estate sale, WAIT TO THROW ANYTHING AWAY OR GIVE ANYTHING TO CHARITY unless it’s really trash or perishable. Let your estate sale agent decide what is saleable and what is not.

SCHEDULE an appointment with a reputable estate sale agent – we will be happy to give you some names to call.

NEED CASH? If there is not enough to have an estate sale or if the condo association will not allow a sale, consider selling items on the Internet, or look under “estate sales” in the Yellow Pages for dealers who do “buy-outs.” But sometimes a tax donation letter will have more value. COMPARE first!

If you itemize your income taxes, why not DONATE the furniture and decorative household items? We pick up for free, and will provide an itemized inventory on our letterhead for your tax purposes.
